TAKE A BREAK, January 1997
Nominated by Jo Chekley, editor, That's Life!:
This cover of Take a Break from January 1997 was way ahead of its time, capturing the essence of the British sense of humour and daring to break away from tradition with its 'skinny man' cover shot and tongue in cheek headline.
Aside from this it also addresses the real issues facing the British public – love, marriage, life, divorce, in a way that really resonates with readers. To me this cover encapsulates what Take a Break is all about and sums up why Take a Break has remained the UK's market leading women's weekly magazine through the decades. It's a magazine that has always dared to be different, not shying away from sensitive or unsettling issues, whilst remaining true to the readers it represents. With its honest approach to the true life stories of ordinary British folk, this cover represents why Take a Break deserves to win the Great Cover Debate.
